Common Questions

What denominations can use the Small Starts @ Worship tools?

Any and all denominations are welcome and encouraged to use our free, simple tools that are appropriate for all faiths.

If this is a government program, how can it be in churches?

The Governor’s Foundation for Health and Wellness is not a state program. It’s a non- profit, 501(c)(3) corporation dedicated to enabling and encouraging Tennesseans to lead healthier lives. It is supported by employers, hospital systems, health insurance companies, community organizations, and others across the state.

What information tracking happens when my place of worship signs up?

The Foundation captures only the contact information for your place of worship. We can also see which Small Starts you have chosen and which ones you have completed.

Should we get approval from my faith leader before I start a wellness program at my place of worship?

Having the support, encouragement, and advocacy of your faith leader helps establish and sustain your program.

Can we have more than one program leader?

Yes, you can have more than one program leader, and leadership matters. We also advise that a wellness committee or council made up of enthusiastic and committed members be formed to take ownership of your initiatives.

Does the foundation give grants to start wellness programs?

No, but the Foundation provides free Small Starts @ Worship tools that are easily accessible on-line.
